Sound & Music

We are most excited by films that are able to communicate through image alone, and two of our first four projects have been silent films insofar as there is no dialogue; however, our work is far from “silent.”

Music is essential to the emotions and atmosphere of our work, and we compose much of our music before the shoot itself. This accomplishes two things:
1) We establish an atmosphere for the film aurally, which encourages us to think more freely about the image possibilities
2) We play the music on set while shooting to create a more dynamic atmosphere for our performers.

That said, breaking rules is perhaps only interesting if you know how to follow them. Below is an example of an extremely conventional approach to audio. We recorded the dialogue on set, then composed music and recorded foley in post.

Now, here is an example of a sequence in which we recorded 100% of the foley and sounds in post. We recorded the music before shooting and worked to meet the feeling of the music through the images we captured.
